About Shashikala Ravi

Smt. Shashikala Ravi is the founder director of Amritanjali School of Bharatanatyam at Kalyani Nagar with a branch in Viman Nagar. Shashikala Ravi is the senior disciple of the legendary dancer Natya Kalanidhi late Smt. Swarna Saraswathy of Bharatanatya Academy, Delhi under whom she trained for several long years. She had her arangetram at the age of seventeen. She is at present studying Abhinaya under Padmabhushan Smt Kalanidhi Narayan, Chennai.

Shashikala Ravi holds an Alankar (Post Graduate Degree) in Bharatanatyam.. She is also trained in Carnatic vocal music by her mother. She is at present pursuing PhD. in Bharatanatyam. Shashikala Ravi is a recipient of Natya Ratna and Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Prishad awards. She is an empanelled artiste with the Indian Council of Cultural Relations, New Delhi and IRCEN - India International Rural Cultural Centre, New Delhi. She is also a member of the International Dance Council - CID and World Dance Alliance - Asia Pacific and ABHAI - Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India. She is empanelled as an examiner for BA and MA students of Bharatanatyam at the Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth ( deemed university ), Pune.

She was teaching Bharatanatyam for seven years in Delhi before moving to Pune. She is teaching Bharatanatyam in Pune for the past eight years.

Mrs. Ravi has given several performances in India and abroad. She has also choreographed several dance dramas like Sant Darshan, Shiv Mahima etc. Her recent dance drama Aandal Kalyanam based on the life sketch of Sri. Aandal, a great devotee of Lord Ranganatha was very well appreciated by the Pune audience and has been staged many times..

Besides achievements in the field of dance Shashikala Ravi also holds postgraduate degrees in Zoology and Education and has worked as the Head of Biology Dept in Delhi's public schools. At present she is totally devoted to Bharatanatyam.

At Amritanjali, the students are trained in Bharatanatyam maintaining its pristine purity. They are given ample opportunity to perform on stage through programmes organised for them. They are also trained in theory and encouraged to take exams conducted by relevant boards. Willing students are also trained for Arangetram, the first debut solo performance. Amritanjali hopes to carry this sublime art to as many youngsters of today as possible.
